Phonics is a method of teaching reading and writing that focuses on the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and their corresponding written symbols (graphemes), primarily letters. The primary goal of phonics is to help learners develop the ability to decode, read, and spell words by understanding the sound-symbol relationships in the English language.
Here we use a story, The Village Inn, to help the learner remember these sound-symbol relationships by assigning phonics to local Tipperary characters, placenames, and scenes e.g. Larry from Ballingarry represents the r-controlled vowel ar. The Village Inn is available as a short booklet. It follows the story of Larry, a middle-aged Fine Gael councillor, as he tries to find a wife.

Here we present the story in 3 presentations: Phonics 1    Phonics 2    Phonics 3 Each slide in the presentation provides the learner with a video of each page from the story being read and a shortened video to help remember the phonics.
Each slide contains the story in sequence and a quiz which helps identify the phonic. (Mark the Words)
To help reinforce each phonic, a sound to word slide follows, where the learner clicks to hear the word and then types it in the adjacent box.
